UC San Diego Campus Machine Shop
Skilled shop technicians work with campus researchers and external clients to design and fabricate specialized equipment that is not available on the market. MasterCam technology allows shop staff to use CAD programs that run computer-operated mills and lathes to produce completed parts.
In addition to design consultation and fabrication, the shop provides welding services and operates a fully stocked tool crib that sells materials and tools. Shop services include:
Blueprint design, Reverse engineering, Certified MIG & TIG welding – (portable, micro and large scale) Machining and fabrication of super alloys and ceramics (including Tantalum, Cobalt, Monel, Moly, Hastelloy), Manual and CNC turning and 4-axis milling, Precision grinding, Wire-and-Sinker EDM, Heat treating, Sheet metal fabrication, Gas brazing, Waterjet cutting - Vacuum leak testing - On-site consultation and repairs - Centrifuge/Shaker repair
