Plastic extrusion occurs by heating material and forcing it through a die, which shapes the plastic into a continous shape that hardens during cooling. After the plastic material is cooled, these continuous linear products can be cut to length. The extrusion process is ideal when a variety of lengths of the same shape are needed. If multiple materials are needed to produce a product, then a co-extrusion process can be used.
This process enables manufacturers to efficiently produce a high volume of plastic with the same shape at different lengths while minimizing design and setup costs.
